How to add Omega-3 Fatty Acids to your Vegan Diet

There are so many great reasons to switch to a plant-based diet, and follow a vegan life. However, it is not without its challenges.

One of the main issues that vegans will find with their diet is ensuring that they can get all the nutrients they need for everyday life. An example of this is Omega-3 Fatty Acids, which, for the most part, are found in fish oils. Omega-3 Fatty Acids are known to reduce inflammation and even be able to reduce the risk of dementia.

While Omega-3 are usually found in fish oil-based foods and supplements, this doesn’t mean that you cannot find an alternative source.

To help you still feel the benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in your diet, we have put together some alternative sources that you can explore for yourself.

Brussel Sprouts

While not everyone's favourite greens, you will be pleased to know that they pack a great amount of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  They are not only rich in these acids, but they are also packed with other nutrients too. If you eat sprouts regularly, you will find a 16% reduced risk of heart disease.

Chia Seeds

You are likely to see chia seeds on a variety of healthy foods list, primarily because they are known to provide various health benefits. This small yet mighty seed can give you a wealth of protein, fibre and most importantly, since you're reading this post... full of Omega-3 Fatty Acids too.

Just 28g of these seeds are going to exceed your daily recommended intake of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. You can use chia seeds in various ways; you can sprinkle them on salads, yoghurts or even smoothies. You can also grind the seeds and mix them with water to create a vegan egg substitute. Careful though, too many of these will stuff up your... internal system.

If you eat a vegan diet, you will already know that nuts are a great addition to your diet. There are several reasons for this, and they can vary depending on which nut you choose to eat. One nut you should be eating more of if you are looking to increase Omega-3 Fatty Acids that you include in the foods you eat; is walnuts.

Walnuts are loaded with a variety of healthy fats, and studies have shown that eating them regularly can help improve your brain health and your memory and concentration. They also taste great and can be used in so many different dishes in so many different ways.
